Wooden Dash Removal

Hi all,

On balance with tax and MOT looming, new wing and bonnet needed plus various spots of rust, a worrying knock from the rear suspension, poor running and a host of other minor niggles I have decided to get the £2000 scrappage for my mini .
However it only needs MOT and Tax, they don’t care what condition it is in pretty much as long as I can drive to the garage. Thus I was going to get whatever I can off it to flog. I’m thinking of taking out the walnut dash and clocks.

So to get to the nub of it can this be done without removing the whole steering assembly? Will it just ease up and over it?

Also any suggestions on other bits to remove pre scrapping?

P.s. anybody want to buy a dash and clocks?

Is it a centre speedo dash? and secondly

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It’s an SPI with 3 clocks directly in front of the steering wheel.

Why not sell instead of scrap?

I’d be more than happy to sell, but can’t see me getting close to £2k for it.

Probably not, but you should lower your expectations a little…and also consider the consequences of scrapping it. It sounds as if you’re giving up just because you’re stuck on £2k.

And this ladies and gentlemen, is why the scrappage scheme **SUCKS.**

Agree entirely - and also if the original poster looks into it they’ll probably find it’s not the deal it looks like.

As I understand it, you have to toe the line with what you’re offered from the manufacturers for the scrappage scheme - ie they will have a fixed price that you will have to take (taking the scrappage bonus into account), and in many cases you could actually get a better deal shopping around and taking offers that are incompatible with the scheme. I think the BBC did a report not long into the scheme where they showed that by taking the scrappage discount they were able to buy a car for exactly £2000 off the RRP, but by hunting around eg internet discount sites they were able to get a car for something like £2800 off the RRP without even touching the scheme!

So be aware - don’t end up scrapping the Mini and STILL paying more than you have to!

AGREED

So what car are you planning on replacing your SPi with?
You do realise that you won’t get £2000 cash, but instead a non-transferable voucher for money of a brand new car!?

So you’re going to end up paying £6K or more still, and it’d be much cheaper to repair the SPi, nothing you’ve listed sounds like a major issue, so I suspect you could do it all for a couple of hundred quid, and sell the car for the £2K or more!

The scrapage scheme is good for about 88 days, after that time the brand new car depreciates more than 2k lol

I saw this post when it started with no replies… I cringed at the thought of the response it was going to get… what possesed you to ask a bunch of certifiable MiniManiacs about a subject that basically means 1 less Mini… you should see the basket cases in the rebuild sections mate… and some of them come out better than they came off the production lines… in all seriousnes tho… look into the scrappage offer a bit more deeply and shop around… think about what you are suggesting… dumping a icon of British motoring history for a deal that isnt worth the paper its written on… all I can say is… you must have a LARGE pair mate
