I have a standard 998 and have fitted a 3 branch manifold the y and single piece type and a mini sport alloy water cooled inlet with 1 1/2 single carb and genuine k&n pancake filter and the exhaust is 2 1/2" , 3" straight through pipe and 3" round exit back box! Just wondering
Only if it’s set up properly on a rolling road, otherwise if fitted and left probably not.
a 3 inch exhaust will loose you power
> a 3 inch exhaust will loose you power
Agreed, you need to go 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" maximum

Hi guys I said 3" exit is this 3" or smaller this is my exhaust
It’s all relevant, anything will be an improvement on the original pea shooter.
Basically you have fitted a stage 1 kit?
You have asked if a stage 1 performance kit will help performance when one of the reasons, the main reason really of a performance kit is to help performance (if properly set up obvcourse)?
As the others have said yes it will aid performance, essentially letting the engine breathe better and optimising flow etc, but it will need setting up for gain full benefit, and happier engine characteristics… fueling, timing will need setting etc
for a 998 1.75" diameter is the best in terms of performance, any bigger and power will be lost.
> 3" straight through pipe and 3" round exit back box! i thought you had a 3" exhaust!
The inlet manifold will be water heated not cooled, and thats a whole different can of worms on wether or not to plumb it in
YetI
Have you had this on a rolling road since you bolted it together?
What was the outcome and did the tester mention anything (if he was mini tuning clued up that is)
For a 998 the ideal exhaust pipe internal diameter is 1.625", or 1.75" outside diameter. This diameter should be constant right to the final exit point. If it is bigger, the exhaust gas will move too slowly and thus lose power due to low gas inertia.

With regards to the manifold heated does the hose that goes to the heater tap go on the one side then from the other side to the tap??? Also my car is being sprayed so since fitting I haven’t yet tested it as there is no petrol tank fitted car has been of the road since 1989 it’s passed the m.o.t with the standard set up exhaust but car hasn’t been run since swapping bits over does anyone know the size of my exhaust looking at the pic?
Your not making any sense mate, you need to be clear what your saying and what your asking?
You say you fitted the parts and whether they would make a difference, then you say the car is being sprayed and you haven’t tested it yet as there is no petrol tank and its been hasn’t been running since swapping the parts over???
People want to help but give us a chance?

Hi sorry will try to make it clear I have a standard 998 which past it’s m.o.t as standard since the m.o.t I have stripped out the car and obviously the petrol tank because it is being sprayed, as my car isn’t getting picked up for spraying till 24th of November I thought I’d do some mods to the car, I bought a complete exhaust system 3 branch manifold straight through pipe and back box pic of back box is here not sure on the size just looks 3"

I have also fitted a mini sport water heated/cooled inlet manifold, my carb is a single 1 1/2 carb I believe and k&n pancake filter. My question was what sort of preformance will this give if tuned correctly?
And can anyone recommend anyone in the Worthing / Brighton area for tuning?
What I can’t believe is why you haven’t measured it?
I hope your build isn’t roughly based around ‘It looks that size’
As for the heated intake, don’t bother plumbing it in unless there’s a Worthing or Brighton in Sweden. The temperatures here aren’t really consistently cold enough for of it to be any benefit.
As for the exhaust side, you’ll hear from me what you’ll hear from everyone else, 1.75" max from the manifold through to the exit.
Oh and I noticed you haven’t mentioned a needle change? I don’t know if you’ve bought this kit as a stage one kit or as separate parts. Either way, the air filter replacement will mean the carb will be taking in too much air unless a change in carb needle is done.
Theoretically this kind of setup will add about 20 - 25% more power. Realistically it’ll be around the 15 - 20% mark depending on where the kit’s from and what make/model of components are used.
So if you knew what kind of ft/lb and BHP it was making before the swap you can pretty much work it out.
But if it turns out your exhaust is actually 3" then you’re looking at about 10% at best.
Greg.
Take it to CLICKY being down your neck of the woods
I’m hoping to take mine there sometime very soon…

Way to big for a 1275 let alone a 998.
Thanks for your suggestions parts fitted are not as a kit i need to get it on a rolling road when I get it all bk together
Do I just leave the manifold as it is? Or do I need to blank of the holes where the water flows through?
> Do I just leave the manifold as it is? Or do I need to blank of the holes where the water flows through?
You can just leave it as it is. wont affect anything as it is.
