A little while ago one of the members on here showed us his daily driver a VW Lupo
His thread was Entitled “The New Real Mini”
Its got me thinking, what does everybody consider to be “The New real Mini” ?
Dont get me wrong i luv VW,s
And granted the Lupo has character i really wanted one myself once and still wouldnt say no to one
The Lupo though was quite an expensive small car and had quite a few extras to be considered the new mini
Im Just Curious what other consider to be the nearest to the original mini concept/design brief but in todays standards ?
To My Mind The car that best fits that bill is the Peugeot 107
Its basic,(the base model still has wind up windows )
Its Cheap
Cheap to run
Has little touch to save on pruduction costs like the glass tailgate, rear widows open like the mini too
And inside it has just what it needs and noo more, just one bigg speedo (rev counters are an optional extra )
To me the peugeot107/Citroen c1/Toyota aygo is the nearest spiritural succesor by modern day stadards to the Classic Mini, more than the Bini ever could be
To be honest I don’t think you could ever ever recreate a classic.. hence why they are sought after head turning icons. I understand your thread.. but what I’m saying is you can’t beat the originals. They just aren’t iconic!
Top Gear last night, that Ferrari was beautiful! If I was offered the whole range of the new Ferrari fleet or the Daytona, I’d choose the Daytona! Simple because they’re bloody gorgeous and can’t be beaten .
I don’t consider anything to be ‘The New Mini’ because Mini’s aren’t new. Unless Austin/Rover make a huge return and produce them like they are/used to be, then I don’t think there’ll ever be a new Mini.
Imagine if they did come back though, and just sorted out the little faults with them; give them better heating, front mounted radiators..etc. That’d be awesome!

I see where your comming from and agree, there never will be Another Mini
But to my mind the 107 is aimed at the same market thesedays
Granted as will.i.am stated i too luv the 500 but they seem soo posh
The 107 is a basic no frills little city car just like the mini but could never ever replace it
I’d hhave to agree with you Joloke…but I’d go more on the Toyota AYGO!!! Purely because I did my placement at Toyota GB in the Product Planning department and learnt all about them!!
So I may be a bit biased!!!
Although the way Peugeot sell the 107 is quite funny…they tell everyone it’s going to be really reliable because it has a Toyota engine in it!! haha!!

my mini in my garage when its finshed you will never get a new mini!
We recently bought a new car for the wifes daily driver (still got the mini, but it’s now just for fun) and she was torn between the swift and the new fiat, but ended up choosing the swift as she felt the fiats engine wasn’t suitable for her needs (this was before they released tha Arbarth version), also she felt that whilst the Fiat was very pretty, it only looked really good with all the optional extras, making it a very dear little car indeed.
The Suzuki does a very good job of being a small, but practical car, it doesn’t look tiny to me, but when parked next to the mini it’s surprising how little size difference there is, unlike when you park an original mini next to a bmw one, the bm one looks huge.
