What Can't People Be Bothered?

Lo all… just want to vent something! lol

I got driven/slid into on Tuesday… by a Mitsubishi Evolution MR Edition.. not a cheap car

The guy was super helpful because he ran his own bodyshop, said he’d sort my damage … payed for my new arch, fitted it, and took all the dents out of my door today… in less than an hour.

Just done a bit of internet surfing this afternoon… and guess what… the car is listed an unisured

How do people get away with this!! grrr… i pay a fortune for my tiny cooper…

>

Finished!

Ryan

report it! simple as.

At least he helped you out with it, you get some real idiots driving round with no insurance who would probably have legged it after they realised they’d hit you… not saying he’s right to have no insurance though

To be honest when I first started driving, I was not at all surprised that so many people drive uninsured!
its so damn expensive and complicated! all i can say is that its better than the evo guy driving off isnt it?

Well.. he couldn’t really moved… he’d put us both in the snow… he was obviously a wealthy man.. his garage has lots of expensive cars in… so why risk it? Surely he could even have a trade policy?

EDIT: oh annnnd… I have no real problem with him… as said… my car’s fixed… it’s all those people I have a problem with!

well rich people can do what they want cant they??? oh no! thats just what they think!!! lol

snobs…

I’m interested to know how you found out he wasn’t insured, where did you search? Would it have covered “Trade” as I think it’s an any car (in the companies possessio) policy?

My company has a policy that covers for hired cars when we are abroad, i.e. cover is for any car whtehr owned, not owned or leased/hired.

Use it as a threat, say you will inform the police if he doesnt repair future body work on the mini for free…

yes i like that!!! and also everyone elses mini on the forum

You have answered your own question!!

Chances are he was insured through a traders policy.

Sometimes it takes a while for cars to show up on the MID.

I don’t think he was an uninsured driver, it just wasn’t worth NCB, excess when he could fix it himself.

I hope you’re all right

He’s already told me to take any real claims there! lol

i think it properly was a trade policy and he is insured for any car and doesn’t have to list his

sounds be a bit bizar ps was it ur car in mini mag this month ?? if so i love it

got it in one. The only way you can find out if its covered by trade is to make a claim.
The policy at work is a ‘Fleet policy’ and i did a search on my van and it came up uninsured! Asked the boss and he was a little worried so rang up and asked. Fleet/trade policys wont be found on the internet.

Yes they will.

The police use the MID database, even if you have a trade policy the car must still be on their database. The police do take a dim view of this, a friend of mine spent 3/4 sat in the back of a cop whilst his trade policy checked out.

I also have a personal fleet policy, all my cars are listed on the MID

When I had a traders policy they were also listed, Tradex actually provide a text service so you can tex the no of your new vehicle to them anytime of day or night so it can be added to the MID database ASAP.

Its not a foolproof system, and can be a little slow sometimes, hence the confusion over this.

I got hit by a woman pulling out or a turning who was parked up and with her hazard lights on. I think she had just bought the car as when she pulled over another car pulled in behind and 2 other people got out called me an idiot and went to check if she was ok. I took a few pictures gave her my details and then all the others wandered off to second car came back and the actual driver never spoke to me, think i got the details of her friend who then went and sat in car whilst i called police.

The woman at police station said that if no one was injured then police presence wasn’t needed, i had stuff to do so made sure we were all ok and left.

I got home and called insurance and told them what had happened. They came back to me about a week later, the woman was not known at that address and the car was not insured, the car i was in was my bosses car! The insurance told me that i would have to pay the 500 excess myself to get car repaired and they would try to find out who owned the car and get money back for me.

I managed to get the car looking half decent myself apart from a chunk missing out of the alloy in the middle.

I’ve had 2 accidents that were both my fault, both times i lost a lot of money. First one they wrote off my clubby estate and i had to buy it back and ended up with a cheque for £300 which wen on a new front end. The second accident i totalled my mk2 golf gti and ended up losing about 4k on that, but thankfully neither me or my mate were hurt.

I sometimes can see why people drive without insurance, most of the time your probably better off but it is against the law so i continue to insure my car.

> sounds be a bit bizar ps was it ur car in mini mag this month ?? if so i love it

Errrrm… i hope not! ha… i might have a look now though… see if they are similar

I’m sorry but I can’t agree with anyone who says that… if I managed it when I was a student… by saving loads of money before hand … then people with actual jobs can do it too! If you can’t afford… get the bus… end of.
