Voltage Stabilizer

I have a 1983 mini Mayfair with a set of 110mph clocks. Could someone tell me where the voltage stabilizer should go on the back of my clocks. Ive taken a picture of the back of the clocks so someone could point out where it goes?

Cheers all

Looks to me like one of the later Nippon style pods where the stabiliser is built in, rather than a Smiths setup - any names on it?

It is a Nippon-Seiki. If you look in the upper right corner of the picture you’ll see a script “NS” next to the lamps.

As stated by Jupitus the voltage stabilizer is somewhere inside.

Can’t see any names on it. mmm if it does have a built in one then im unsure why the temp and fuel gauge doesn’t work.

Err, you can see the name in the photo! It says ‘Nippon Seiki Japan’ along the bottom edge, cast into the plastic. As Doug says it also has ‘NS’ etched into the PCB, above the speedo calibration stamp. As above this type of cluster has a solid state stabiliser bonded onto the inside of the PCB.

Have you tried shorting the gauge senders to see if the gauges respond?

Probably because ‘Nippon-Seiki’ are rubbish.

Seriously though, if it’s come from an SPi Mini, then there’s a chance their not working as I believe the fuel injection Minis differed as the ECU did all the work as opposed to the senders as fitted to carb equipped Minis?

Or is it just the rev counters that are a problem when cross-matching?

oops didn’t notice the name there lol. Will have to try shorting the senders out. Whats the best way to do this?

temperature sender wire straight to earth will get it to move if it works

Fuel tank sender spade connectors connected together with a paper clip and with the ignition on the fuel gauge should then read full.

Cheers guys thats great. ill give that a try and see what happens.

What happend?

I have just given my 2 penneth worth on this thread stinky once you can deduce the connections you can easily test the unit even if it is internally mounted as the connections are external. please let me know if i am wrong as i dont want to give out wrong info!!
