Have you checked the wheel bearings.
Also the balljoints top and bottom of the hub
i havent a clue as wht to look for and where matey i was just wondering what people would recon it was that way i could work out a price cheers
Sounds lethal to me, suggest getting a garage to look at it, or someone who knows what they’re doing.
Would suggest ball joint, hub, or similar damaged.
Brakes needing pumping may mean the caliper that side is jammed and leaking, causing brakes to need pumping, if so you’ll run out of fluid and have no brakes.
**DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR**
Where are you based, someone from here may be able to take a look, else local garage.
Dave
Sounds like very bad wheel bearings to me - the brakes needing a pump would be a sign of the disc pushing the pads further away than usual (known as pad knock off).
So I would assume the disc and drive flange are wobbling whilst the hub and brake caliper is staying still, hence wheel bearings not ball joints.
I second Dave’s advice - **DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR**
Whatever the problem it needs to be investigated by garage or competent person immediately - or at least before you drive the car again. The vehicle sounds unsafe - potentially bad news for you and all other road users and pedestrians if you continue to drive it.
Forum diagnosis and advice should only be taken as a guide and not as gospel - we have not seen the vehicle and you don’t sound confident, or competent, enough to assess the problem yourself (no disrespect).
cheers matey im based south east london greenwich area yer i spoke to a mechanic i no he is going to come and have a look tonight but i have no where to park it with out getting a ticket in the mean time.
graemeC haha cheers i see where ya coming from i whant be driving it at all. ill have some one look tonight and ill get it worked out some one sead it would be a steering rack does that sound right or not? cheers
I had very similar syptoms on an Escort MK2. It was the wheel bearings. As they oscilate , the disc forces the pads and pistons further away than normal. You probably had to hit the brakes twice:once to centralise the disc, once to stop it. Its v. dangerous, pay what it takes to get it fixed if you cant do it yourself.
ok cheers buddy
