Tappet Clearences

**i have been trying to set my car up because it had a flatspot on low range rpm. i started with all the basics, points, condenser etc but no different. i then tried adjusting the tappet clearences to 15 thou now it runs loads smoother with no flatspot. my question is will it be alright to leave the clearences this wide on stadard tappets.:**

**stage 1 kit fitted, pipercross airfilter, AAM needle.**

They should be set at 12thou on standard rocker gear. how did you deduce that the vale clearence was the problem?

well the engine wouldnt idle properly, missing alot. and when you full throttled it it just backfired through inlet. also it had a flat spot all the way up to about 2.5k RPM.

Have you had it set-up on a rolling road since the Stage 1 kit was fitted?
