im thinking of taking the plunge and fitting a flip front in the not to distant future, but what is the actual weight difference between the 2 and also what if the front was made out of carbon fibre what would be the weight then?
cheers

anyone?
I’ve not weighed my fg front but it’s not that light. It’s easy enough to carry though and I’ve got a thick layer of wunderseal on the inside and a spot lamp bar on the front.
I think the main benefit of fitting a fg front is easier access and the lack of rust rather than weight saving. That’s why I fitted mine anyway.
I could try and weigh mine tonight, It’s sat in my room bare.
Easy to carry up 3 flights of stairs on my own though.
yeah would be nice to know what the difference is in weight as i’ve got a guy who can make it out of carbon fibre
duno y you would bother with a steel flip front, the main advantage to doing a flippy is to get rid if potential rust IMO as to weight i would think the FG is a fair bit lighter and not much difference between FG and CF but u get the added strength!!

Must have wide stairs then! Or was it Chuckle brothers style negotiation?
Nah I didn’t do it sideways! but I hit about every wall on the way up
I havent got and figures, but iv had fiberglass, steel and carbon fiber front ends and steel is alot heavier to lift than both the CF and FG fronts.
So yes there is a fair amount of weight to be saved there, but the main reason for the conversion i feel is to eliminate rust returning again

I would say that a steel front of all genuine panels would be a lot easier to fit/line up. My fg one took lots of fettling to get right
I had one on a car a while back. In my opinion, the major enhancement is ACCESS around the engine bay. There are no inner wings to fould getting an engine in and out, and also you can get to the alternator, dizzy etc without removing the grill. Another enhancement is cooling, as you can remove the inner wheelarch so massivley increase airflow.
yeah these are the main resons why i want a flip front
I’ve being debating whether to fit a f/g or c/f front end to my turbo conversion. Im not too bothered about the weight saving, but the easy access and lack of inner wings is very appealing.
