You’ve probably got water all over the distributor and/or spark plugs.

Right now, you need to pull off each end of each spark plug lead (HT lead) ONE AT A TIME and give a *little* squirt of WD40. This will help you diagnose whether it’s a damp problem. WD40 isn’t a permanent solution - more of an emergency fix.

Cover the dizzy with a marigold glove before you wash the car next time (and leave it there for wet weather protection…)
And/or get a weather shield..worth their weight in gold honestly.

Oh, does it have fuel in it?

yea has fuel and about 3 hours ago i coverd it in holts damp seal stuff and there has been no water on it today
and after i started it last night finally i drove 16 mile so thats should have dried everything + its been sitting
in the sun all day it just seems to not start after a short time, im confused

Did it dry out before you used the damp seal?
Could this be keeping water IN?

yea like i said its been in sun all day and i drove 16 miles last night after it wouldnt start then it started first time when
i went tesco but then same as yesterday after leaving it for 5 mins it wouldnt start, then all of a sudden vroom shes away lol

What’s it drive like when it’s started mate?
Wondering if damp is a red herring.

Is there too much fuel sitting … wait five minutes and it’s evaporated, and as you say VROOM!

it runs ok and its the 5 mins wait while im in tesco where it does something then it wont start like its draining back but it dont ever take 50 odd tried to start even when its run outta fuel and ive filled it up 2 turns of key and it starts
i was trying to start it for about 15 mins outside tesco 3 people asked if i wanted a jump nice offer but it wouldnt help as my battery is fine lol

also there had been no damp today at all, when it done it yerserday that is what i thought it was but as no damp today i dont think it can be water

Fuel pump?

> Fuel pump?

possilbly but why does it start fine i bet if i went out now it would start fine its just after a very shot journey
and a short time before i try to start it again, im gonna change fuel filter at week end as its due for some new bits weekend
so as well as track rod end, lower ball joint and rear wheel bearing, its now gonna have a fuel filter as it looks pretty dirty
and dont suppose its been changed in its 31 years of life lol

any other help will be greatly appreiciated

thanks

also how long do you normally leave choke on as i was trying to start it with choke on but it cant be ready for
no choke after 1/2 mile , can it?

anyone got any ideas this morning

have u checked any of you sparks an leads for damage or extreme dirtyness?

it would cost you a little but u could replace sparks and leads, but check them first they might be fine…

keep a 1liter petrol can handy an when it wont start pour a little into the carb an see if it goes? thats a good way to see if its a carby/fuel pump problem(it would start up then die soon after)

when its not working does it still crank an everything?and just not fire? when it does fire back up does it start rough?

no when it starts its fine. And leads and plugs are fairly new.

Are points/condenser/dizzy cap in good condition?
If yes then move to carb and check if jet is blocked and if theres oil in the dashpot as a first check.

yea they all look fine and i checked the oil in pot tif first time it wouldnt go

Are all the vacuum hoses fitted correctly and not damaged? Which carb are u running? If u can provide us ome engine specs would be great..

to be honest i dont no any details will these pics help

the big vacume hose you can see in the top pic isnt very tightly fitted

That is an engine oil breather, a little clamp will help to hold it tight. I dont see the fuel return pipe from the chamber..Is it connected?
Check that manifold to head nuts are tight and give a good clean to that KN filter.
You have a lumention coil, is it ballasted correctly with its own white resistor?

yea to the white resistor and with ref to the fuel return pipe there is only 1 hose on the top of the fuel pot all the other carbs ive seen have had space for 2 pipes which i assume is the return but mine only has one and bolts are tight

also what would i need to change the k & N filter as it sucks too much air i would like to have a normal air filter
