I took my Italian Job to MiniSpeeds rolling road this afternoon. Its totally standard except that I’ve removed the catalytic converter and put in a de-cat pipe. Apparently the timing was a long way out and now it drives soooo much better
Whats confusing me is that it produced 52bhp which is more than the 50bhp it had when it was made. Am I confusing power at the flywheel against the roadwheels or something similar?

50bhp @ 5000rpm 66lb ft @ 2600rpm 1992-2000: Mini Sprite / Mayfair
Thanks,

From your sheet you have 52bhp at the flywheel and 38bhp at the road wheel. Engines rarely produce what the manufacturer claims but usually they are lower.
would love to know what i have
1275 (1988 metro engine) less then 35000 miles with stage 1 kit
one day ill find out
if they have that RR at pod this weekend ill get it done
if you don’t mind how much is it for a rolling road session at mini speed.

Its £80 per hour but the actual cost depends on what you want doing. A full tune-up with mixtures and timing plus BHP test will take most of an hour.

Thanks. I guessed I was being too optimistic. Never mind though…its got loads more torque now they’ve set the timing. Apparently it was way out!
isnt 50bhp a bit low for a 1275?

dont think so if its standard like this,
i got 66bhp from an MG metro 1275 with a stage 1 kit, so even that helps massively.
my mini has a 1275 mg with stg 1 as well and it managed 82bhp/86ft lb before the run was cut short by the fan exploding so could have got a bit more.
