Hi my name is scott, i am currently looking at getting a mini cooper. I am 17 so it will be my first car.
In september i got hit off my moped when i was sat in traffic by another bike. I have just got the cheque through the post from my ped as it was a write off so can finally get a car. I am going to have a look at some Coopers this weekend and hopefully will like one and buy it!
Just thought i would say hello as im sure i will have a lot of questions.
My dad used to hill climb a mini and has owned loads over the years. He has already given me his Mini World Magazine collection (100 odd magazines) so i will get reading!
Anyone got any advice when looking at mini’s? apart from looking for rust?
dont follow your heart!!! the car might look perfect and u’l fall in love with it but let u’r head do the buying no matter what!!!
if it looks too goood to be true, guess what, it is!
best a luck on the mini hunt anyway

yep, assume the iceberg theory - if you can see surface rust that looks small, be sure you’ll find much more lurking below! Welcome to the fun world of mini ownership!

Thats why my dad is there lol. I like all coopers (not bothered about colour) we are going to the one that is most structurally sound

I just helped my son rebuild a cooper special and then found out how much the insurance was for a seventeen year old. Needless to say, he is now driving a 998 bog standard car that we picked up as an unfinished project and completed it in less than two weeks!
So, my advice to you is check out your insurance costs before you buy, or you may be sorry!!!

Can get insured on a Cooper for £1336 TPFT
and i can modify it without it changing the cost as long as the Mods dont change the performance and i tell them about it. I just want to put buckets in it to start with.
Yeh call footman james up, I am 18 and had only just passed my test and got £1200 fully comp on a 1400cc mini 30, excess is 400 though. They only wanted about £670 for TPFT
I’ve just got a quote through from Footman James for £760 fully comp, limited mileage at 6000 per year pretty pleased with that. But my current insurer has just dropped their offer from £808 to £737 unlimited mileage!
Ideas sound good my advice as i do is go to a exhaust shop with the owner before buying them at the wheel and just say i might need a new pipe then you get it lifted up for a good look for free and ask for a tyre free check
> For the prices everyone has got on their insurance is it for the full social domestic pleasure and commuting (or whatever its actually called) or not?
Just wondered as will be using mine as a daily driver when i’ve passed my test so would be no good for me personally if it wasn’t
