Sealing The Gap Between The Flitch And The Wing

When is the best point to smooth in the sealant between the wing and the flitch panel?

Im almost ready to get the shell painted and im going to primer the whole shell in highbulid 2k grey before getting a coat of white primer and finally the basecoat chilli red.

That may or may not seem a daft question… but i read somewhere that the sealant between the wing and the flitch should still be tacky before applying the paint… to prevent cracking when cured.

Thats what im after really, i want to avoid the final basecoat cracking at that joint.

All advice is appreciated

I didn’t want to much thickness of paint on my sealant to help prevent cracking so I put it in after final flatting of high build primer. Then it only had my top coat on it, not sure if this is best method, main thing that will crack the sealant is movement, if the wings are welded well and the gap is small then I do t think you will have a problem.

Cheers for that Daz.

Obviously, i meant the scuttle and not the flitch… but you sussed that…
