Replacement For Worn Mpi Aigbag Steering Wheel

My Nickel and black leather wheel originally fitted to the Cooper Sport was looking a little dog eared, not due to mileage but it seems the silver connalising isnt to resiliant. Anyhoo it was letting the interior down. After trying to find a new original wheel or a decent aftermarket that retained the black and silver theme I had started to dispair. That was until I saw Torres’ car which had been installed with an MGTF wheel. Slightly different spokes but black and silver, the difference being the silver sections are plastic not leather.

Off I troted to fleabay to see what was available and low and behold quite a few black and silver MGTF wheels but all a bit pricey so I held off until last week when I spotted a new one for the paltry sum of £55. Woohoo, but this had tiptronic switches would it work??? Anyway I took a punt and I have to say what a brilliant mod and easy to do to. Straight swap no agro, original airbag fits a treat and the tiptronic although useless at the moment add interest.

Next plan is to look and see if I can retro install steering wheel stereo controls from a Rover 25 and eitherr plumb these into a new Rover CD unit or use a Kenwood etc with a loom adapter. I think I may need to change the rotary coupling to suit though.

What a result.. That looks awesome.. just gave me an amazing idea for when i get my MPI..

Come on spill the beans, whats the grand plan?

The biggest problem I can see with utilising the steptronics or whatever Rover called them is the rotary coupler and the loom socket, it would appear to have 6 terminals, 2 of which are alreadt used by the horn. The remaining 4 are used by the steptronic swithces or in my case 2 will be used for the Rover stereo control panel.

I am advised neither the Mini or the MGF/TF rotary coupler wont do stereo control so I will need to find one from a 200/25 or a 400/45
