Hello All
I need to add replacement heritage rear wheel arch subframe brackets in the boot of my mini, but need advice on what is the correct way to weld them.
After looking at them on a 2000 Cooper sport, it looks like its spotwelded in place, and on a restored 1960’s mini I looked at, is was welded using a series of stitch welds on the flanges where it meets the boot floor and inner arch.
The only welder I have access to is my MIG welder. What is the method I should use to weld it in place? Bear in mind that if I plug weld, then I will not be able to get my angle grinder in many places to clean the welds up. Are both these methods OK for MOT purposes?
Picture attatched,
Thanks in advance
Ideally I think it would be best spot welded but its not really an option unless you have the right spot welder.
When I put replacement brackets in, I ran small seams about an inch long mainly round the corners.
Where Ive marked red is where I welded mine and they were perfectly acceptable for MOT.

And by the way, your repairs look very nice!

Hi Jack
Thanks for the info on the seam welds. I guessed they would be OK, but welding is th eone thing everyone should take time to get right as its the most difficult thing to fix once the car is assembled and painted!
Thanks for the compliment on my repairs, have you seen any other pictures of my mini under restoration, or just the one I posted?
Thanks
