Just out of curiosity, I’ve just fitted twin carbs to my mg metro engine, I’ve put the cheap pancake filters on for now…
I’m not getting any sucking sound like I used to get with me HIF44 with cone K&N. I thought I’d get more because I got twin carbs,
Is it because of the cheap filters?
yeah its because of the cheap filters, take the filters off and you will see what i mean
I thought so, I have tried them without the filters whilst balancing, any reason why the filters are to blame? must get K&N’s soon!
If you are on twins then there will be half the noise as half the air is passing through each carb (if nothing else changed). And the pancakes are also damping the noise. K&Ns would get you back the induction “suck”.
These days induction paths are tuned to minimise induction noise with air boxes, hose bends, baffles etc. Real shame really. Our eldests RS Focus has what looks like four miles of hoses, bends etc. on the induction side. You simply don’t hear any induction noise or even turbo spool / dump noise at all. Not that you would probably hear it over the exhaust and overrun pops though.
Cheers
Ian
Spot on, thanks for that Ian!
