As title mini is leaking…

This seams to be the main culprite

It comes from the selector.

  1. What is it?
  2. Is it an easy fix ie just a seal?

That should go some way to stopping the leak, you will also want to buy the roll pin punch to allow you to disconnect the selector rod. (worth getting as it can be a headache)

I’m somewhat surprised that it’s leaking so little!  It doesn’t appear to have proper seal in there just some silicon!

Yes you need to get all of that silicon crap out first and then kit the kit listed above!

It looks like bubble gum stuffed in there  O_O

Well maybe but looks to work better than the stock seal!

I have bought a kit to replace the poor attempt that is there atm,

How do i get this shaft off?

Put the car in reverse and knock the roll pin pin out. Then pull or prise the old seal out with a pick or small screwdriver, then just tap the new one in with a drift or socket

Takes no time at all (unless your replacing the bush too!)

  1. It’s oil
  2. Clean drive way and put more oil in top.

Not sure how helpful it is but I’ve put 2 new seals down that hole and I’ve not had a single drop since.

Not sure if I am right but doesn’t the oil need draining first? Or it will gush all over your face once you pull that rubber seal out?

So it goes metal ring with oring ontop then rubber seal then gaitor?

Is that right?

Also the 4 pins do you just knock them in then slide the shaft off?

Yeap. Make sure that the ‘bore’ in the gearbox where the seal goes is clean, really clean and not damaged.

Then the Alloy ring first and then the seal. I don’t bother with the gaiter as they hold dirt which then gets pushed in to the seal when you select 2nd, 4th and Reverse.

When you buy your Anti-leak Kit, I’d also suggest buying 2 new Roll Pins.

You might also find you’ll get some more room to work in there, if you disconnect the upper (steady) rod off the back of the diff cap too.
