How can this make a car “safe” and be given a passed MOT?
This is why you dont put on repair sills, you do it proper.
What you see is the original sill inside the repair sill, and its all just bits of rot.
Crazy.

what happened there, looks like a really poor to want of an word i cant use
hope you get it sorted, obviouslly done before you got it
I bought it as a project and Im just ripping apart the nearside floor (already done the offside)
The offside wasn’t as bad as this though.
I was just shocked that somebody could tack (very badly) on a repair sill over this and they pass it on an MOT which deems it “safe”
So glad I’m ripping it apart now and doing it properly rather than later.
the alternative is that the prev owner got a bent mot.
Makes you wonder what most minis are like. My van floors are the same, the drivers side has the original front floor pan (rotten as hell) with another complete panel welded over the top and repare sections on to of that!!
How can people deem this safe!
I doubt it was a bent MOT- The floors look perfectly fine when you tack on another repair sill!
Bluemini- Crazy isn’t it? Im 16, cant legally drive yet and Im shocked and cant believe people tick the box to say this is safe. Maybe replacing the whole floor for a small bit of rot is abit over the top, like in some european countries.
But shouldn’t repairs be made to be done better than sh*t like this?!
I think the current MOT is s**t
What you don’t see does’t matter
Just think, most new cars have placstic sill covers
And in a few years time when the rot has started, you won’t be able to see
without taking them off
So MOT time comes and as the tester can’t take them off for a look, providind the rest of the car is fine IT WILL PASS
Dont even get me started on plastic C**p on new cars!! :nugget:
Anyway… Let’s be happy, we have real cars ![]()
Its a clasic bodge it and fudge it :nugget:
If you doo come across a car you are looking at which has oversills, it may not be as bad as you think…
The clue is how thick the seam of metal is ( where the trim normal is ) If its only the thickness of two panels then it’s quite likely that the original sill was removed and the oversill was used to replace it… If it’s more than two panels thick ( Petal on onse side had the original sill and TWO oversills ) then you will have a rotten sill underneath…
As sprocket says… Bodgit and Run motors inc…
