My 1980 Clubby Project (first Project)

hi this is my first project its a 1980 clubby

(thought it was '78 when i first got it because of a no.plate i found in it)

V5 documents confirmed it as 1980 v plate.

My dad bought it off a mate for my 16th birthday in september but had to wait about 6months to get my garage sorted

there a pile of parts it came with

the rear subframe just needs a clean and paint

my 1275 metro block

Then the work started

There i started cutting the floor pans becase they were like a siv with pin prick holes

I needed to tip car on its side to get better access at the floors and sills
as i was waiting to do that i started to strip the engine.

i did the cylinder head first by cleaning the valves and grinding them back to the seats
and i cleaned the head with parafin and instead of skimming the head i just cleaned the
face with wet and dry

I turned the car on its side and cut alot more out the floor and trimmed the panel to fit
in with the least amount of overlapping metal as i could and held the panel in place with
10mm bolts ready to weld in the next week or so when i get hold of some gas for my mig

Nice clubby you have your self there, also excellent work so far.

i’d get some group 5’s or maybe some mini special arches.
good luck with your project!! is there a name??
Olly

nice project mate! i’m also 16, 17 in august. i hav a limited edition studio 2 i’m rebuilding with a few wee extras along the way. currently rebuilding my engine (the fun bit!) but u got any insurance quotes on the 1275 metro? i’m stikin with 998 but have a kent race cam, a 12g295 big valve head and twin 1 1/4 SU’s, and i’m fabricating a custom straight thru exhaust so shud go like the clappers!

made first major mistake tho! lost the keys!!! haha. need to get a nu ignition barrel too it seems!

good luck!

i started the engine rebuild but after finishing the cylinderhead, the floors and sills are higher on the list to do
i did a quote on insurence and got £1300 lol guess i need to raise the money im 17 in september

i got a box full of carbs theres a pair of twin SU’s so i think they looking good lol and i got a pretty nice center exit
exhaust so it should go and sound meaty.

i cant wait till it gets painted

looks like you have a good shell there in better condition than mine when i started good luck with it
