Misfire Afrer New Exhaust.

Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.

**Model:**Citry e
**Year:** 85
**Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):**
Well i had an new exhaust fitted 2 weeks ago and since then the car misfires and also cuts out when i break, i took it back to the exhaust garage he had a look and blamed it on the misfiring, yet if i pull the choke out just a fraction the car runs perfect, ive been told to get new condenser rotor arm and dizzy cap. ive checked all the spark plugs and there fine
any ideas?

**Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?**
Just me lol

was the exhuast a standard replacement? or is it a bigger one?

JD

just a standard replacement

it could be an air leak.when the exhaust was fitted something might have been dislodge

I doubt if its anything to do with the points/condensor/rotor arm because you say the car runs perfect with with choke out a tad. Did he take the manifolds off when he fitted the exhaust?

You said you had it 2 weeks so this might not be relevant, but on my previous mini i had a simiilar problem but after i ran it for a quiet a while and the exhaust sooted up it went back to normal. Could be that all it needs is use, as you say all you need is a little choke and its fine seems less likely for the electics to be a fault, but don’t hold me to that though lol

yeah the previous owner had it 2 months and it stood in a garage, and before that a lady for 18 yrs who stood it for a while too

it had oni done 34 mile since its last mot last june

also i mean it dont cut out with a lil choak still misfires tho

Whereabouts in Oldbury are you mate. I might have seen you around

Well actually Tividale if you know it, but i go through oldbury everyday, what about you,
and theres 3 minis you would see me in, ill post come pics and and to my sig or garage

and also i just took the mini out for a nice town drive, all the stopping and starting and it only cut out once. but i noticed like every time i do break it looks like the ignition light is fighting to come on

oh and i dont know about manifold as i left the car with him for a few hours,

Ive got a sneaky suspicion that your battery live cable is shorting out somewhere, possibly due to being disturbed whilst the new exhaust was being fitted.
I had a similar problem a couple of years back. I live in Smethwick but Im in Oldbury quite a bit as my dad works on Dudley Road East.

oooo could it be ive added a immobiliser that aint to secure atm?

and smethick, you know warley cars?

I had a problem with misfiring at idle and nearly cutting out, pulling the choke a tiny bit helped at first, but after a quick blast down the motorway at 70 (good going for a 998 auto) it idles like a dream again. That was after being stood for a few weeks. If its only done 34 miles a good run might be all it needs if its the same exhaust?

That was after a battery charge as well, with a charger, it ran like cr@p before i did that…

a nice run, would be a good idea put no speedo atm lol

> oooo could it be ive added a immobiliser that aint to secure atm? Theres a possibility. I would start with that.

and smethick, you know warley cars? Yeah just up the road from me. Used to see a white Mini with Tweetie Pie stickers
on it parked outside

Same happending in my 89 mini city E, was the points…
Was stalling when i stopped, missfiring proper bad, when the choopke pulled out and going at fast speeds it sounded fine though, replaced the points (£4) and sorted the gaps cleaned the dizzy cap and it was fine.

oooo the points will sort that, ill just go and buy all new parts

Also we own warley cars the mini was a operators
