Hi there, i have a quick question reguarding track rod ends, before i ask though a bit of background information i have 13x7 superlights and a mini sport quick rack fitted and adjustable tie rods and lower arms, now my question is although i have bought the long version of track rod ends they still only go on a few turns not enough in my opinion so my quick fix at the time was to weld a nut to the tre to extend the number of threads but surely i shouldnt have to do this is it a case i have the tie rods and bottom arms miles out that the tre need to be extra long to compensate?
Should the ‘long’ tre be long enough to fit with the setup above adjusted correctly?
That is very unsafe, and it seems to me that you must have set up the lower arms for an excessive amount of negative camber. Welding steering parts such as the nut to the TRE is a certain MOT failure, and also you can not ever safely weld the two dissimilar materials, neither of which is weldable safely on its own by normal techniques, far less to each other.
The correct TREs are Triumph Spitfire types, which you can get from any Triumph specialist (try Googling), and are likely to be cheaper than the same part from certain Mini suppliers.
It is of course possible that the track rods, part of the rack, are too short.
