Hi Folks, my 1991 Cooper Carb version is having issues, due to the fantastic weather we are having. Was speaking to a guy who used to Rally mini’s and he reckoned you can get a waterproof cover for the Dizzy. Mine is a Lucas 65dm. He described it as being like Latex and you just roll it over the Dizzy cap and body. Has anyone come across this and if so, where could I get one?
Cheers,
G
i think alot of people just use rubber gloves?! but i’m not sure its too good for it
I use a latex glove on mine, just gets wet so easily without it.
Why do you reckon its not good for it? Does the distributor get hot or something like that?
so basically a latex glove covering the dizzy i havent heard of these rally covers but if you snip slits in the finger holes to feed the leads through and secure the rubber glove with a few elaccy bands has been the best dizzy shield i have ever used and looks mint if you decide to do a rat look mini without a grill
beat me to it grrrrr
Mini spares sells the covers your on about. Quite expensive though for what they are. rubber gloves FTW!
Using good quality spark plugs (like NGK BPR6ES), HT Leads (Lumenition part ‘HV22’ from Mini Spares) and a replacement dizzy cap and rotor arm as and when required helps.
But you should also have the original weather shield fitted too. You can buy them for reasonable money from here: -
Either way I’ve got those fitted to my 1990 Mini Cooper and I never have any issues during the wet (touches wood).

Their a fair bit cheaper via my Huddersfield Minis link above.
But even Mini Spares have dropped their prices for weather shields. Just not enough to compete with Huddersfield though.

Ditto on my Mayfair.
