Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
I’m having problems with my indicators not working - sometimes they work fine, other times they come on, click once or twice, then stop, sometimes they make a buzzing sound as though they’re flashing too fast, then stop, and sometimes they just don’t come on at all. The hazards don’t work when the indicators don’t, but I haven’t managed to check them when the indicators are working.
I’m no electrician, so I spoke to our friendly local mechanic (who’s helped us out loads over the past couple of years), who advised that it’s probably a dodgy earth connection from the flasher unit behind the dash. After much messing about (including taking the seat out) I finally found the flasher unit (photo below), but the earth wire seems to just run into the main wiring bundle that runs through into the engine bay. I did find an earthing point in the bay with two connectors coming off the main wiring bundle (another photo below), and I gave them a bit of a clean up, but that’s not helped at all.
Any advice on finding the earthing point for the flasher unit? I did see some posts where people said it was earthed to the bottom rail of the dash, but I can’t see anything like that. Do I have to take anything apart to get to it? I don’t have a multimeter or anything like that to check voltages, so I’m thinking it’s a bit of trial and error.
Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
Apart from a non-standard pair of spots at the front, nothing’s been done to the electrics.
Hope that all makes sense - I’ve not posted here before (Hi, everyone!), so tell me if you need more info!
