Hi guys and gals. I’ve been a lurker on this board for quite some time now. I’ve looked and read about the incredible cars that people have restored and maintained on this site. I’ve always longed to be one of those people.
Well, this weekend, I drove up to Calgary Canada from Minneapolis, Minnesota and picked up my first Mini. 2500 miles in three days! Its a 1978 with a 998cc engine that doesn’t run (cranks but will not fire), and the body is in need of some TLC.
I have no knowledge of Minis or know much about cars and their general workings but figured this would force me to learn!!! I am a car enthusiast and have owned a number of sports cars and a few exotics. My current garage consists of a Ferrari and a 911 along with a few daily drivers.
I am going to need to lean heavily on the experience expertise and knowledge of the members of this board to being this little gem to the state I want.
My goals are
1). Complete body off shell refurbishment (I am going to source the body work out)
2). Flip front (up)
3). Vtec installation
4). Disc brakes on all corners
5). Complete heating and air conditioning package (it gets very hot and very cold here)
6). Great interior with GPS, bluetooth, DVD, etc.
I’ll post pictures of the car tomorrow and give you an idea of what I’m facing. No time frame or budget. Just ordered a lift today so hopefully that should help the project.
Look forward to meeting and working with the members of this board.( I hope I have posted this in the right section…guess I could have posted in the newbie section but I am hoping to keep this thread going for some time.)
