I worked the long hot summer of 1975 on a building site in order to buy the car and I drove it until 1981. It has been in my father’s garage ever since (apart from a resurgence of interest around 15 years ago when I got it MOT’d, but then did not use, as I am in Scotland and the car is in England). I’m now deciding whether to restore. I need advice on restoring (less is more?), cost and value before making a decision. I guess I could start by purchasing Parnell’s book?

Restore it, it’s a beauty.
Will hold it’s value more if you keep everything orginal.
Wow, you lucky thing, I’m jealous.
Sorry I wouldn’t know the exact value, but if you’re planning on keeping it, and keeping it original, then I’m sure the value and enjoyment will outweigh the cost…
Also… Welcome to TMF, if you do plan to restore it, post up a project in the projects section would be great to see!
I’ve seen worse than that on the road, you lucky b****r!By the looks of it a little tlc during the winter months is all she needs.Have fun.
welcome
Welcome to TMF. Don’t let such a great car go to waste…restore it.
What an absolute little beauty
Restore it without a doubt. Less is definetely more when it comes to such an original car as yours. John Parnell’s Original Cooper book is considered one of the best.
Well worth working that summer
Welcome to TMF
Oh yes, don’t forget to paint the roof black when you restore it

I called DVLA to ensure that they had the same records as me. I was shocked to hear that they had ‘‘de-registered it’’ so no registration number, as it had not been taxed for some time. As the home address on the V5 from 1975 is still valid they could have contacted me to ascertain the facts.
Can they do this?
I have now had to write to them requesting that they return the registration to me, if still available.
