Hazard Switch Assembly

has anybody got a picture/diagram/description of how the insides of the hazard switch is suppose to go back together.
i removed the top to see why the contacts were not working and because its spring loaded it poped out and i cant get to work again.
i managed to put it in, but the light wouldnt light up.

can anyone help please

thanks

can someone at least tell me if im putting the pieces together the right way round.

I recently replaced mine because it had worn out, it has obviousley been used quite a lot which on a 1998 car with 99,000 miles on the clock is a little worrying, hopefully not a sign of things do come. I did the same as you and opened up the old switch and everything wnet flying everywhere, i tried to put it back together but it was no use, I do believe you are in need of a new switch, sorry about that.

i have 2 at the moment.
the old one, i took apart and it all flew out, but i managed to put it back together okay. except that i had a prob with the indicators, so i swapped it with the new one and it worked, so i thought… ‘i just take it apart and see why its not working’
i had both there on the desk and i wasnt really paying attention and i managed to take apart the new one by accident (they look the same from the pin end)
so now ive got one that works but it stops the indicators from working.
and one that does work (when i get it back together again - oh yeah and i also dropped and lost the spring) but the light doesnt work when plugged in. UUUURRRRHHH!!!
ive got a box of springs somewhere so i have to wait till tomorrow to get another so i cant even fiddle with it tonight.

I think we are both a prime example of if it doesn’t need to be taken apart **then leave it be**

that front “tang” that goes at 45 degrees needs to go straight down and hook under like a little plastic lip on the white part. the far side one is right, the near one is bent wrong.

njathind - yeah your prob right but thats what owing a mini is all about.
have a go…
c**k it up…
buy a part because they are cheap…

pikey - thanks a lot, thats what i need to know. i did think it was strange that it was bent like that.
although i do remember the other i took apart having a bend like that on there, unless this IS the one i took apart last time??? im so confused.

the switch will light up by connecting the two spade connectors from the loom to the spade connections on the switch

make sure the cap with the terminals goes on so that the 4 prongs go on the same side as the indicator light so when it’s off, the white “shuttle” is just connecting the 2 bottom prongs.

i dont think i have any, unless they both managed to fall off when i took the switch out, but ill have a look anyway

> make sure the cap with the terminals goes on so that the 4 prongs go on the same side as the indicator light so when it’s off, the white “shuttle” is just connecting the 2 bottom prongs.

yeah thanks i thought it was that way round

right update.
i found the 2 wires to light it, they were in there and had fallen off.

now the old switch works and lights up, but the indicators do not work.
and the (broken) switch doesnt work or light up unless i can sort off juggle it a bit and it might light up. and the indicators dont work either.

the indicators do work if i connect the two bottom pins together.
so im gonna have another play to get the other one to work.
and may just connect those two pins together to get it all working properly.

Edit: as i lost the spring i had to replace it, the one i used wasnt strong enough so didnt make the contacts properly. i changed the spring and now it works fine.
although the light doesnt come one, i tested it using a battery and the light does come one, so im not quite sure whats going on there.

2 switches… 1 works on one bit, on on the other…

take em both apart and get the working bits into one switch!
