Hand Brake Cable.

Hey folks.

So, I’m fitting my old 82’s car rear subframe to my 60’s odd Hornet. So far I gotten the old subframe off but I had major problem with the handbrake cable. It just wouldn’t come out of the subframe easily. Is there some trick to fitting / removing the damn things?

Think I ended up squishing then cable ends with the swing arms as well by accident.

Oh also, as long as it doesn’t leak can I extend my exhaust?

Ta for any advice.

Wee bump as I’m waiting on knuckles.

Is it easier to do them with the car on the ground or in the air? As in weight on the swing arms.

The cables go through a quadrant on the swing arm…

You’re supposed to squish the quadrants with pliers once the (lubricated) cable is fitted…

I’m guessing that the cable is held in the squished quadrant?

It was bad enough removing them out of the car to be honest… mine looked like this!

Fit NEW cables anyway!

No no, that bit was easy, it was getting the end of the cable through the subframe (there a little hole for it but the metal part is bulky). Its the metal end bit thats the problem.

Sadly I don’t poop money.

New cable is only around £4 pounds.
