Half Egg Like Rubber Things - Bump Stops?

Hi Guys n Gals
1993 Cooper Sportspack
I think I may know what’s happening but just need some clarification, Ive read other topics on here about bump stops - about a month ago I had to do some work on the front suspension as the front seemed to have dropped, when reversing on full lock the front tyres rubbed, I drove the car and every harsh bump resulted in a metal on metal noise, so got the car home, jacked up and when I did, two half egged shaped rubber like objects fell off simultaneously, are these the bump stops? So I raised the Hi Lo’s to give more clearance - Anyhoo, driving home last night and I heard a slight clonk and the same thing is happening today, incredibly harsh ride and the car is now sitting like a low low pimp my ride kinda motor at the front! ) So does people think that the cones have had it, were the rubber things the bump stops? Any help from you suspension guru’s would be much appreciated ) Ta

This is the bump stop, you need them if you dont want to trash suspension..

Replace the rebound rubber too, seen a lot of minis having them excessively worn, which is no good, you need two of these between top arm and subframe (one each side lol):

Metal to metal noise and low front sound like you knuckle joints are shot, replace them before they start eating their seat into the top arm.. you need two of these:

While youre at, is worth putting some fresh new rubber cones, you can either get the original type or the red dot type, depends on your budget..

Cheers Jaydee, ouch…sounds expensive!! Vey slow drive home for me then!

well..a couple of bump stops is £8, rebound buffer are £7, a couple of knuckles £7 so about 22 quid, the rubber cones are about 30/40 quid each if you go for the original standard type. The upgraded type is about £50 each plus you need hilos to lower the car, or they will make your car sit high as a rally car..
Thats not not so expensive, if you consider after that your car ride will be soooo much better.

To second Jaydee’s comments, it is money very well spent. I did a full suspension overhaul on one of mine and the difference is night and day!

To quote my earlier thread!!..So I raised the Hi Lo’s to give more clearance - Ok thanks guys, I was thinking more expense in labour as I havent got all the tools to tackle this I don’t think, unless anyone fancies a trip to sunny Devon to give me a hand!! Ok so it’s far from sunny at the mo, but plenty of tea and biscuits!! )

Are there no willing helpers in your mini club?
