First up, yes, I’m a noob. I don’t know much about these lil guys or cars in general other than I love 'em and I’ve got a black Designer.
So, hello and please be nice/forgive my lack of knowledge.
Things are looking a little like this:
Monty (the Designer) has leaky doors. *Very* leaky doors at that. I drive in the rain or wash him and the front footwells are swimming. *Glub glub* That’s not all though, the driver’s door actually retains water. It can be heard slooshing around inside it whenever the door’s closed.
Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of the water in the door without damaging the door itself please and how to prevent the water getting back into the doors? I think it’s getting in via the window but shouldn’t be seen as the doors are actually brand new…Monty’s just been restored at a cost of £5k.
The wet floor I’d put down to dodgy door seals, am I on the right tracks?
Clean out the drain holes in the bottom of the doors to start. Then repace the weather strips at the bottom of the windows. And I would also suggest replacing the door seals.
Water in the foot wels are usualy a combination of ALL the seals including the windscreen. but not limmitted to. Its a process of elimination on minis of any decent age, which most are.
Other things to check are badly sealed weld repair patches in the inner wing
You can’t actually stop water getting into the doors though, that’s why they have drain holes. Mini doors were invented before modern glass wipe seals were and as such they have a wet door design. The seals are realy only there as draught seals and to shed the majority of the water that runs down the glass.
Heheheh, yup, that’s precisely the convo I had with Dad when he asked why the doors allowed water in anyway. Still, problem solved! *Waits for the next one to crop up*

I think not, But then we are all entitled to our own opinions :fear:
