im having a bit of a problem with my Mini, 2nd gear always crunches. i know its a common problem with Minis, but i was wondering whether or not it would be possible to fit a 998cc engined Mini with a 5 speed manual. that way, the gears wont crunch and i can cruise at 60 is it possible?
Yes it is… but where do you intend on getting the 5 speed from ?
Plus fixing your current gearbox is a lot cheaper than fitting a 5 speed.

Think you just done yourself out of a sale there!
But as Guessworks says, it’ll be much cheaper to fix or replace your gearbox with another four speed. For improved cruising consider changing your FDR when you rebuild it.

i know the five speed is a lot more expensive (£2000 on Minispares) but i have a number of contacts who deal with cars and car parts so im sure i can get it cheaper.
but at the moment i may just have to fix the four ive got…thanks for the info guys
