Hi, I am currently re building a 1275 a+ for my clubby and 2nd gear needs to be replaced, I have it off the engine, speedo drive off, and lay gears and lay shaft out, but I can’t figure out how to get the main bit out, I see it has two nuts. One on each end, I have managed to undo the one on the clutch side but that is as far as I have got.
Can anyone help with this?
Many thanks, Tom
You need to get the other nut off too, which can be tricky! Have you tried yet? Lock the box in 2 gears with the layshaft back in and a lot of weight to hold the gearbox down (a friend comes in handy). I use my compressor gun and it comes straight off without assistance but not sure if you have one…then you need to knock the main bearings out (after removing large circlip). A Haynes manual is handy so you can see where the indent springs are on the main shaft which need pushing in so the locking rings can be removed
