Freshly Painted Door Looks Flat And Lacks Shine

I did some work on a few rust and hole spots at the bottom of my door and after lots of filling and sanding i sprayed the bottom of the door with spray cans I got from Paints4u.com then finished with lacqure. I applied lots of coats to get it to look good and also the colour match was perfect.

What I am having a problem with is getting the new painted section so shine like the rest of the car. At the moment it looks a little flat and I have tried T cut so its all blended in and polish but still no showroom shine like the top half of thee door. Is there something I can use or do to get this finish? I realise using spray cans is never going to be the perfect solution!!

do you spray on a warm dry day

how long did you leave the paint to go hard before you got the t cut out ?

did you wet flat the paint back between coats?

why does the paint need wet flatting between coats?
the only reason to flat between coats is if you have a lump of dirt in it.
it does not stop the laquer from having a shine.

did you flat the original laquer on all the panel and recoat the whole panel with new laquer?
allow the laquer to dry for a few days and flat with 1500 and cut back using g3 buffing paste and finish off with a liqued. asuming you have put plenty laquer on.

I did not do it on a warm day, it was done in the garage with the door taken off and it is quite cold in there. I put about 6 coats of paint on and 3 lacqure. I left the lacqure on for 24 hours before t cutting it. I did not wet flat between coats and did not flat the original lacqure on the panel. I am what you would call a novice (or dumb ass)!!!

So without having to go through the whole process again, what can I do to my door now that would fix the problem?

the paint might of bloomed as you weren’t somewhere dry and warm

and also in this cold i would of left it a couple of weeks before the t cut

Did you paint over the original paint without preping?

Suprised you didn’t get any runs.

As said, panel needs to be warm, sounds like the culprit is the cold.

I sanded it all down and used primer and the actual door is perfect, no runs as i took my time and was careful. Maybe I should wait until summer and rub it down again and give it another go when it’s warmer. I will T cut the whole car when it warms up and eventually it might start to look shiny again!!! Maybe I will live off beans for a few years and get a proffessional spray job!! Happy days!

iv been painting aswell in the garage and everythings turned out ok except for when i spray black which as Bungle said has bloomed.parts of the paint are gloss black but parts are dull and patchy so id definatly warm your garage up instead of wasting time redoing it.
And as another guy said i normally leave it for about 3 days before i use the g3 paste and buffer and it turns out spot on.

post a couple pictures up for us to see.
If the finish has gone all milky then it is the cold/moisture.
if not then
have a read through this
