Right, guys feel free to bash me for wanting to install a flame thrower on my mini, but its going to be done either way, so if you could give me some help that would be very nice.
What I want to know… I have a twin pipe at the back, so I’ll need two spark plugs. I assume that means ill need two coils? (cant think how id spark two plugs off one coil without a distributor).
Second, the switch that will fire the coils, where do I get the feed from? Do I splice into the +ve and -ve ends of the existing coil and wire them up in parallel or will this burn things?
Mind you, I don’t want to cut off ignition to the engine when pressing the switch as that washes the bores and wears out the engine prematurely, I will simply pull out choke when pressing the switch… Should work relatively well.
Flame kits don’t tend to work very well on non-Turbo cars, they rely on a lot of unburnt fuel in the exhaust stream. So unless you’ve got a turbo, or your engine is shagged out, you won’t have very impressive flames.
utter C**p, i installed my own flamer kit on my mini thou, ran sweet as hell, spat 2 ft flames like a soddin flame thrower!!!give me ur msn address or email address and i can send you a video of it!
follow this link to the details of the flamer kit i copied its a very good way of doing it!
this was exactly what i did on my mini, note when you flick the switch to activate the above diy flamer example you must keep your foot flat to the floor! the engine still winds down due to there being no spark to the engine!
they do work, i am making another on my turbo mini once its running! so more details of me doing that will be posted.
hope this helps
I’ve always fancied flames, have seen some that use gas, and some alcohol (like you get in easystart). Let me know how you get on pavel i need to burn pedestrian feet!
Not to that extent. Just enough to ward of threatening BMW drivers behind my poor little car!
Hey, Pavel,
I’ve got two Mini Coopers (a 1964 ‘S’ and a 1990 Cooper) plus a BMW 728. You spit flames at my Beemer and my '64 full-spec ‘proper’ rally car will just have to come and blow your Mini away
just a quickie, it is deffinatly worth carrying a fire extinguisher in the car when u have a flamer kit, i had to use 1 two or three times because i set my carbon fibre backbox on fire! also i had my entire system behind the spark plug glowing bright red!
things get hot so worth thinkin bout!
Any normaly aspirated riciprocating engine that has flames at the end of a very long exhaust system is some what mal tuned, so why would you give people that impression, even then the turbo engines with antilag systems do it for a reason and that is not to impress your mates

haha yeah I know lol, but I just want to see what it looks like on a mini
Id be more worried about my paint work getting ruined!
