The engine steady has moved and sheered the head of the bolt of and left the nut in the block. ive tryed drilling it out with a 90 degree drill but with no luck. Is there any other way of solving this problem?
Can you buy an extended steady bar to reach the next hole? Any suggestion welcome? cheers
I had this problem.
I got a bracket off a guy i know. It bolts into the *bell housing*? using to bolts. The plate has 2 holes in the top, 1 of which lines up with the steady hole. Bolt into this rather then the head.
Will find a pic!
I put a m10 bolt i think thru so the nut end was facing towards me.
Then bolted the bracket to engine, then using 2 spanners tightened on the steady.
cheers fella saved me a lot of work there!
Jordie, 1/2 of your engine steady is missing which is why it has failed in the first place. There is a plate which should go over the outside of the steady rod and bolt to the front hole on the block or in that bracket. Without this the load on the one bolt is massively increased and is uneven (it’s only pulling on one side) leading to the bolt failing. It will happen again if you don’t fix it. There should be a plate both sides of the engine steady bar, a flat plate on the engine side and a cranked plate on the outside which leads back to the hole. These plates not only properly distribute the load between the bolts but also put the correct preload on to the bushes in the rod, meaning they work properly.
Legend, by your description of trying to use ‘the other hole’ I imagine this is the same for you. It is quite common.
This is the original part that should be fitted to the outside of the rod.
There is also a flat plate for the other side.
There are four different designs of this bracket to choose from depending on which engine you have and which bolts are broken.
Yea ive just had a nose around and ive seen what i need!!! ITS IN THE POST!
yeah dan i know. the guy couldnt find it and i never had one…
but i fitted an ultimate engine steady at same time so its pretty secure.
good eyes for pointing it out tho
