Ebay Accuspark And Powespark Experience

I am looking to buy a Lucas 25d for my 1968 Mini 850. I had a quick look on eBay and I found good prices from Accuspark and Powerspark.
I assume that the dizzys are all reconditioned. Does anyone have any experience with either of these sellers?
Thanks

I have one fitted to my Clubby 998, it was simple to fit and quick adjustment of the timing and off it went. I need to look back through my receipts to see which manufacturer it is but it is the same model.

My accuspark one was a new one, I don’t think they do recons, quality was fine and it’s still going strong. My only issue is that they don’t have model specific advance curves so that may affect your decision. I have used one complete dizzy because mine was trashed, I have also used two of their kits in the original dizzy and as long as you use the combined rotor and trigger they are very reliable. Mine would not work with the separate trigger and I know others have had similar issues.

The dizzy s don’t have the Right advance curve. So add the cost of recurve to it. There is an article about this in the FAQ

Had an fitted Accuspark about three years ago, while the car was in to have the head replaced. Smooth running ever since, apart from a fault with the coil which was replaced under warranty. Certainly better than the worn out dizzy that was burning out points every 2,000 miles or so!

If its for a standard car then not an issue. My car until i dismantled it for the resto started everytime and ran like clockwork. If you are trying to use these on a modified engine then a whole different ballgame.

The issue is that they don’t do individual models across the range, so it’s the same fitment for an early 850 as a late 1275 and that will always be a compromise. Whilst it will work it will not be optimal even on an unmodified engine. I used one as I didn’t have an option at that time but would still use the fit in kit given a choice as that way you have the best of both worlds. Whether the small loss in performance of the replacement dizzy is an issue will be for the owner to decide.

I have a standard innocenti mini 850, no mods. I only need to replace the vacuum unit which is no longer working. I thought it would be a good idea to replace the whole distributor because it is almost 50 years old and no doubt there must be some wear and the springs must be on their last legs

Just fitted one this weekend (powerspark), nice and easy, had to cut the post off on the 59d dizzys that controls the points but other than that it’s plug and play.

One thing I will say is make sure the rest of your ignition system (coil, plugs leads etc) is in top condition as I found out with these kits they deliver a stronger more reliable spark and if anything else in the system is starting to fail it could throw up a problem.

read the FAQ article first please. I bought a dizzy like that last year., 38 degrees of built in advance. Absolutely NOT right for ANY standard engine.

Well just going by my engine alone i had no timing or running issues at all. Is there an underlying issue who knows but as i have had no problems running it for two years then i think i can live with it.

Different for my 1293 as that will have a recurved dizzy suitable for the mods.

An alternative could be a non original 25d from minispares

Ofcourse one can be lucky and not suffer damage, but everyone should be cautious with these dizzies.

Very interesting. Thanks

You could also get an Accuspark Blackbox and do all your advance electronically and not use the mechanical advance at all..
