Distributor Shaft Removal A+

I need to remove the distributor shaft from my 1293 A+ engine. I am fitting a megajolt and want to recover the space.

I know I need a 5/16 UNF bolt as per the Haynes book, but I have no idea how to make sure it is 5/16. ANything I can take off the car to use thats 5/16 UNF?

Just pop down to B&Q.

engine stabiliser bolt to block i think, the long one

To be honest, its not held in by much, just twist and pull. Bolt is so you don’t drop it into the gear box like a berk.

If you’re not planning on reusing the drive, just get a bolt that grabs and pull. Or just use pretty much any bolt off a Mini engine. Manifold studs are 5/16th

got the bugger out

For future reference, bolts in B&Q will be metric. Halfords used to sell UNF bolts, but I don’t know if they still do. A nice long one is best. You could remove one of the long rear subframe mount bolts and use that, if you can get it out. Next longest may be the top steady bolt. Manifold studs, as stated, will do at a pinch. Put a loop of wire or string round the bolt and tie it to something, just in case.

[obligatory penis joke here]

Radiator bottom bolt or the 2 through the bracket below it

**A nice long one is best.**

[Thats what she said.]

Pigeonto, very good point. The through bolt on later radiator bottom mounts (A+) is very long. I had forgotten about that one.

I actually have a longish bolt in my toolbox which was originally a body to chassis bolt on a Triumph Herald.

Cheers all, I actually had the radiator out to replace the bottom pulley! I used the longest bolt I had and it worked!
