Cluch / Flywheel

Hi just got myself a metro turbo engine but it came with no cluch or flywheel its a 1983 i believe so dont really know what to get can some one point me in the right direction please. e.g verto /non verto

PRE VERTO !!

VERTO!!!

Nonsense! It’s heavier - and non-adjustable - and uses the ghastly (and heavier) pre-engaged starter - unless you swap the ring gear of course.

I thought standard pre-verto flywheels came with intertia starter rings, I agree you’re better off with pre-verto though

Verto flywheels were introduced a good 3 years before the pre-engaged starter. If you really want a Verto with an innertia, they do exist.

I’d go with a pre-Verto though. to be honest you can choose whatever you want if there isn’t one fitted at all. What system was fitted to the Mini previously?

Sorted pre verto it is what starter motor do I need I’ve got one how can I tell it’s the right one

Do you have your flywheel yet? If not you can get one with whichever ring gear you like. Frankly the pre-engaged starter is far, far better. It spins the engine faster, it always engages and doesn’t rely on having a clean thread, and it is extremely unlikley that it will ever get stuck in mesh or jam. It does mean you need to add a relay in the starter circuit if you didn’t have a pre-engaged starter before as the solenoid draws a lot more power in this system and the ignition lock isn’t up to it. If you really want an innertia starter then get one but I’d always go for the pre-engaged given the choice.

And not needing adjusting makes it worse??

I’d rather pay the price of the extra weight for the considerably better pedal feel, and the reduced pressure on the trust bearings,

Having used pre-verto’s for many years, I’m never going back after trying my current verto setup.
