Clubmans And 1275 Gt's

Still in view of dating my 1275 gt i could do with a bit of information on both of these models (being as the shells were the same). What factory were they all made at?? Longbridge?? or were they made at them both?
Are they classed as MK2 or MK3 and if they are both how could i properly tell??

Are there any distinguishing features that’d date a 1275gt to a certain year between 70 and 73??

The reason i ask all this is because my 1275gt was a CKD sent to Belgium but it has a cowley VIN plate on it and the rivets are the same age as the ones on the Import plate to France and the holes were drilled before the shell was painted so i’m wondering how i can have such a plate if the man i spoke to at heritage says that it’s impossible.

Ooo good thread.

I can’t help much, but I’m pretty sure they’re Mk IIIs

They started as Mk3 with winding window doors, 10" Rostyle wheels, S discs, etc.

Some info here may help you:

Not bad that site, does anyone know of any add ons the belgian minis had that the home grown ones didn’t have??

What parts of a mini can be dated?? (And i can’t date the glass as no stickers or anything).

Craig

There are quite a few parts which have dates on them - boot lock, wiper motor, plastic parts like ashtray, clock binnacle, etc. Dating glass is done by locating a little dot under the word ‘toughened’ on the safety/brand mark etched into the glass. It depends which letter the dot is under but you’ll have to research that further as I’ve no idea which location means which year,

JR

And if your glass doesn’t say toughened?? lol

Craig

i think the dot refers to the year in the decade that the glass was made, i think. ie under the “o” would be 62, 72, 82, etc i think!!

Both the front and rear screens are blank no writing anywhere on them, the plastic ashtray in the centre of the dash has nothing on it, the wiper motor has some numbers on the back but nothing that looks like a date…

Craig

The rear quaterlights say that the glass is tempered and there are a few letters and numbers don’t know if they are datable??

Craig

what is the manufacturers name on the side glass?

My rear quarterlight reads

GR
(squiggly line) B6S ( i think it’s a B)
Solid Tempered
A32 M20
