Hi, picked up my new project last week, it’ll be my first mini restoration so could be a learning curve! I’ve had a knackered mini shell with a good engine in it sitting in the workshop for a while and didn’t know what to do with it so my dad kindly found this rolling shell. It’s got cooper s discs and drums apparently and a roll cage which I’m going to add more tubes to for more safety and rigidity. Any helpful advice and comments would be greatly appreciated, like I say, this is my first mini so don’t know that much about them yet!
This is the old one, it’s probably not that bad but it needs more work than I want to get involved with at the minute, not sure what we’ll be doing with it yet, will be using the engine and some of the parts for the new one but the shell and possibly the rest of the running gear may be available so if anyone’s interested drop me a line.
Thanks guys. Itching to get cracking with it but need to get paying work done on other cars in the workshop at the same time so it’s a bit of a balancing act. Minor update:
Pulled the roll cage out - took some head scratching to get the rear section out of the car!
Put it back together and stripped the old powder coating off
It’s quite good really. It had been bought by a guy who collects racing cars and I think he intended to go rallying in it but it ended up being dry stored for about 10 years. It looks like it was almost ready to go racing, all the welding had been done, all it was waiting for was an engine, so there’s not much left to do, just a couple of holes here and there and a few minor areas to clean up.
First thing is to get it prepared and painted, put the engine in it and get it back on the road, not sure what I’m going to do regards performance yet. I’m aiming for it to be quite stripped, but it’s going to be for day to day use so it won’t be a total racer.
