Child Seats In A Classic Mini

Hi!

Im just wondering if anyone has any experience of putting child seats in the Back of a classic mini?
Ive not been in a position to try it yet, and i know my 3 year old son’s recaro (stage2?) seat wont fit in the front as i have little fixed back classic bucket seats.
I guess its the depth of the seat and leg room space vs size of a child seat that will determine if it is a pain in the bum or not.
We do not intend to have him in the car often or for long. But would be good if we can do a few short trips with him now n again.

Many thanks for any advice

Have you got seat belts in the back?

What age is the car?

Yes seat belts in the back and the car is a 1990 flame red

Are they fixed or inertia?

There shouldn’t be any issues fitting it in a mini.

Pretty sure they are fixed. Not had the car long and not with it at the minute.
Belt will still be adjustable wont it so hopefully actually mounting the seat shouldnt be a problem?

There’s still adjustment in the seatbelt and in some respects a fixed belt may better.

My 3year old loves coming in the front of my mini in his recaro seat, I don’t have seat belts in the back atm but will be fitting fixed ones over the winter and don’t see it will be an issue, I hope not anyway, hope to be going to mitp next year with the wife and hopefully 2 kids!!

I had no issues with 2 car seats in the back of mine with fixed just takes some faffing to get the adjustment right so the seats are nice and tight

Got one in the back of mine almost all the time now!

Pain in the arse to adjust the seat belts when having full sized people in the back, but car seats fits no problem when in and adjusted!

Got two in the back of mine no problems just a bit fiddly getting the seat belts right. The kids love a trip out in the mini

Thanks guys sounds like it shouldnt be a problem. Wasnt sure if there would be room for his little legs to dangle. I guess I’ll know for sure when we try it.
He will be in a booster seat soon’ish so will see if that helps or not also

I take my 3 year old daughter in my mini and she loves it. Again I find it a bit fiddly to get the belt connected but once it’s on it seems as secure as when I put it in any other car. Shouldn’t be a problem :+1:

lots of room, had 2 kids and a tent and a push chair in the back of my mini

We were a family of six growing up with a mini, how things change eh!? Ha

We were five, my folks didn’t get rid of the mini till I was about 12.  We upgraded to a Fiat 127 - mahoosif!  :teehee:

Ha, we went to a mk1 renault 5 in the 80s,as the youngest I sat in the boot but at least the other three could sit three in a row instead of on each others laps!

My three year old loves riding in the front of our mini. I had mothercare spend hours checking and they concluded that none were safe in the back of our MPi because of buckle crunch issues (the buckles are on the end of a bit of belt, so end up resting on the side of the seat). The only one that passed their test in the front was the Britax Eclipse, which also fits my Avensis.
Could never get any small baby seats to fit though. The one from our mothercare buggy fits, but the belt is too short front and rear.

Renault 5 for me too before it blew up and we were stranded in the countryside one weekend!

I still reckon isofix is doable

Good old 80s travelling.  Never for long distances, but I remember our squeezing two families into a Renault 18 estate on holiday.  2 in the front, 2 adults and 2 kids in the back and 2 kids and a dog in the boot.  The boot was the best option as you could stretch out!
