I am having some trouble mixing my 1k primer with thinners, the thinners stays on top of the paint and if i try to mix it just turns all gloopy! Any ideas?
I’m not a pro when it comes to paint - but
sounds like you have the wrong thinners for the paint you are using
2nd that
If you take pic’s of the can’s , the paint came in
someone cleverer than me , could tell you what thinners you need
Ben_O would know
As above, stick some photos up i will try help too. I’m also a painter by trade.
Don’t bother with celly. 2k is much better, unless It’s a DIY job at home. :shy:
If a diy job and no airfed then epoxy high build is very good, I used it on my bonnet and doors and it sands easily
But to your problem I would say as above the thinners is incorrect.
I have the paint and im not changing that, its a diy job, i have just brought cheap thinners for te primer and i have proper celly thinners for top coat but shal i just try that for the primer?
Id use the same thinners for both. When you say cheap thinners, you havnt picked white spirit up by mistake have you?
If the primer is Cellulose, then a standard cellulose thinners is the correct type to use.
It would help if you told us what primer and thinners you have if you could?

using just a regular cellulose primer and toolstation secial white spirits… which i have since forund is the wrong thing haha!
Yup. You need 2k thinners when using epoxy not celly thinners.

I know haha i will have to go and search for some today, are hammerite thinners any good for just the primer?
I suppose so, if your happy to be robbed by the cost of it. Youd be better getting a 5 litre can from your local paint factors assuming your using a gun and are topcoating with celly too. Much cheaper this way.
Hammerite thinners will also react, If using primer use cheap thinners when putting on the paint use best thinners.
please dont give bad advice unless you know for certain.
As has been said, 5 litres of standard thinners can be had for around £10.
Might as well get the correct stuff. Do it right, do it once
