does anyone know why you can’t use a aftermarket camshaft in a spi mini unless it is a injection type cam? is it because the aftermarket hotties don’t have enough vacume at idle and it fools the computer or is it something else.
thanks tony

you can use any cam you want.
problem is the standard ECU wont be able to ‘tune’ the car accordingly, so you have to be a tad conservative in your camshaft selection..
go for a SW5 or equiv’.. will work well

thanks dave, when you say it won’t be able tune it correctly, is that the fuel side or the ignition side or both ??
thanks tony
Its both really. The ECU optimises the fueling and ignition profile assessed against the output exhaust gasses, the input air temp and density, the engine temperature, the engine load, engine speed etc etc. its a complex map and is designed to compliment the designed camshaft. from talking to a number of resident experts and also having discussions with a couple of renown rolling road tuners its acknowledged that the cam profile for the SPi is best kept somewhat conservative. The Kent 276scatter cam is always at the top of the list when talking to these people and is the one Im building into my 1380 SPi. go much wilder than that and you run the real risk of a lean run…not good.
Just my thoughts
