Buying Help

Hi, i am new on this site but i am hopefully buying my first mini this weekend. i have not seen it yet but the seller says it is ok when it is going along a speed but when he slows down in traffic the engine feels a bit jumpy. He says it does not stall and his mechanic says it could be the engine management unit. it is a 1.3i on a 1997 plate. it is up for £1650. has anybody got any ideas or should i just give it a wide berth? thanks

What is the body like? Its far more important than the mechanicals and more costly to repair.

from what i have seen the body is fairly tidy. it has been resprayed about 3 years ago and has new sub frames fitted.

The body is the main thing. With resprays the rust can come back very fast so check it out well.I would also get him to fix the lumpy engine first if you like the car.You are spending quite a bit of money.

Thanks for that i had a look and a drive and i think the lumpy engine is something that could get worse so i have decided against it. have just spotted another for similar money so will be looking tomorrow hopefully.

Well done holding back. When one has set there mind on a car it is only to easy to pay to much just to get one fast.If it was a cheap simple problem you expect the seller to fix it first. With money being short and Christmas on its way you should get a very good buy.Something worth around £2,300 in Summer for £1,600 now.Good luck
