Buying A Min Without A V5 Or Vin

Hi All,

 

i have found mini for sale but on the phone the guy said it didn’t have a V5 or VIN plate (not sure if there’s a VIN number on the top shuttle panel still)

 

i’m ideally looking for a project to put back on the road, can i apply for a new VIN/V5 or can i buy another rotten shell and transfer it over (or is this a big no no)?

I would avoid it and be asking myself the question ‘why is the vin plate missing?’

 

And as for the re-shell idea, that is a big no no. the only way to legitimately re-shell a mini is by using a brand new genuine heritage shell.

 

Keep looking, there are plenty of legitimate cars out there with the paperwork for restoration

You’ll need the VIN to apply to the DVLA for a new V5. As above keep on looking!

If you had a modern car on your drive without a vin plate or any documents you’d expect it to be seized by the police, why we put up with it in the classic world I don’t know?

This sounds like the very car I go on about when people say ringing saves another mini, it doesn’t because it’s robbed the id from this one stopping some one like the OP legitimately returning it to the road, all those 80s cars killed to “re shell” 60s tax free cars has just killed potential legit projects now and left us with a load of ringers MOST of us here wouldn’t touch.

I await the old guard to tell us this car in question may have been a brand new body never registered like in the good old rallying days etc etc, lol
