Bonnet And Boot Help/advise

OK heres where I need some help and advise form the fine people on TMF!

In the process of doing up my E reg mini. The normal bits and bobs are going to be done although thinking of replacing both the bonnet and boot with fibreglass mk1 jobbies from P&L minis? (with mk1 light and numberplate surround, mk1 handle, over-riders and possibly MK1 light covnersion).

Question im asking really is. .

1 - Has anyone purchased parts etc through them before?
2 - Where they good build quality and fit?

Also will the Mk1 bonnet fit my 86 mini or has parts been altered slightly so will need work? Can this be fitted so its hinged or best to secure with pins and straps? Want a bonnet with no lip so can fit older style grill.

I know the boot will need drilling for lock and hinges but is that all that needs doing to fit this?

Thanking you all in advance . . . you guys and gals are the best!!

Scotty

Ill answer these the best i can - never bought anything fibreglass from them but their other stuff seems good soo…

Dont expect anything fibreglass to be a good fit, as a rule its very rare that you wont have to mess about with it before fitting wherever you buy it from.

I think youve got all you need to do for the bootlid, but dont quote me on that

The MK1 bonnet will fit, and you can use hinges and the normal catch if you get one with hinge and catch plates bonded in. You could always just cut the lip off your existing bonnet though if youre just after the mk1 look, or find a van or pickup bonnet as these dont have the lips either?

Last thing is you wont be able to use mk1 handles on later doors as i dont think they fit?

Thanks for the reply.

Yeh understand may need tinkering with but all good fun in the end!! Was thinking (and know off) a lip’d bonnet and cut the other off but prefer it to come ready done (lazy or worried id mash it up you deside!) LOL

Kinda guessed about the mk1 door handles but il leave the mk3 ones on and just have a different key for the boot. Just love the mk1 rear and want to replicate this on mine.

General question to one and all. . . does the mk1 boot and light odds and sods work ok with mk3 rear lights? just incase i dont go down the conversion route straight away??

Scotty

i’ve not brought anything from P&L…

but theres a reason for that.

they’re delivery prices are huge!

i was going to get a mk1 grille and surround from them as they were the cheapest… but with the delivery costs, it made it one of the most expensive to buy.

Thats one thing i forgot to mention - p&l postage can be quite costly - but we normally drive down to them so it doesnt matter. Mk1 boot and mk3 lights are fine.

Think thats it…

mmm never actually checked delivery. . . may be a factor?

Any ideas on anywhere else thats good to get a mk1 boot from?? hmm and all the gubbins, plate surround, handle and light?

Cheers y’all
