dunno what is the best battery to use. i got 2 subs @3000w and then about 20 - 24 speakers going in the car but i need to know what battery is best for this. any help would be great
An Optima battery would be the best to use but they can be pricey. I just got this one yesterday http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/…tegoryId\_165762
Ive got alot of extra electrical stuff fitted as well. I have also upgraded all earth and battery cables to 000 awg and have a 90 amp alternator fitted too.
cool stuff il keep that in mind everyone telling me to just powercap it but i cant be bothered with all that.
How many speakers! What’s the RMS of the install? You’re likely going to need to do something fancy with the charging system.
Sounds like an Optima battery would be the only bet.
cant remember the RMS but it about 15000w overal i think lol.
15000w?! I think you are going to need more than one battery to run that lot to be honest.
yea i know but i know there are some batteries that can run for 120 hours and you can start the car with no problems without damage to the electrical systems
Been toying with the idea of a decent battrey for my orions and focal set up in my car as both are greedy buggers when coming to amp and watt ratings, if your running about 15000 watts is that rms or max?
optima battrey would be your only choice to be honist, mabey need to might strain it to much… obvs you need to upgrade your autonator i doubt your get a good amp rating of a standard uprated auto youd have to get that done by speclists!
and you wouldnt be able to power cap 15000 watts worth it would cost you a bomb!
rember 1 farad = 500watts to 1000watts
theres enough room for 20-25 speakers in a mini plus 2 subs.
got any pictures?
Sounds abit silly to me, I though my 2 12" subs with 500w amp was loud (and stupid). Watts arnt everything… i think sound quality is, A small number of expencive speakers and audio equiptment will sound lots better and be more than loud enought
how many speakers do u need and glad you can read because im suprised ur not def. You would need a stupidly large power cap, power caps are all well and good but the power to power the caps has to come from some where. And that place is from your battery so dosent solve anything just stops other electronic’s being starved from power for short periods of high current draw we are talking seconds.
you will need a verry big decent battery or maby two and you might want to put a verry good alternator on or maby even two of them also whats your engine as the alternator will put lots of load on it might not cope.
15Kw! is some serious power! if you can supply 12v it’s still 1,250 amps! (without the peaks) i’ve got around 7Kw in my mini, i’m using 4 Optima yellow tops for the audio and a single Optima Red top for starter. no caps at all, i’m using a 150amp alternator…but to be honest that isn’t really up to the job for long term use. on a full charge, my optima’s will give me up to 15 mins of full power. 0 guage from alternator to batteries to amps.
You’ve got to decide how you’re using the power…if it’s very short term SPL (<1 min) you’ll get away with less batteries. If you want to have the power on tap for whenever and longer periods, divide your power use in amps by the Ah of your batteries ie (1 hour full power = 1,250Ah / 55Ah (yellow top) = 23 batteries! …also an extra 400Kg) or for 10 mins = 208Ah = 4 batteries and around 70-80kgs
another way to reduce current consumption is increasing your voltage, you can get 16v competition batteries, i was offered some AFTER i bought my yellow-tops (typical) and modding your alternator to give the right voltage. 15Kw @ 12v = 1,250 amp, 15kw @ 16v = 938amp…that’s the principle behind hi-voltage pylons, to reduce current & cable size.
i was told there is someone in Stoke-on-trent that does 300amp alternators that fill fit. i don’t know any names or addresses, again i was told AFTER i bought my 150amp. after a good use i tend to leave a 20amp battery charger on the car over night to reduce alternator strain.
Also, i got away with just changing the suspension to Hi-Lo’s and Spax dampeners, this just about keeps the rim off my wheels! The engine has been changed to a 1275 (which i’ve yet to get running right, maybe i’ll find the incentive to carry on when the weather changes)
hope this is an insight
cheers everyone for the help. obviously the 15kW is max power on everything so contant it prob run bout 5kW because i dont wack it up too much. i am makingg all custom pods for the stuff i will post pictures when finished. i have 10 in there atm and the 2 subs.
out of curiosity, can you list your amps & speakers? i love seeing/reading other peoples mental projects! i got a mate who put 20Kw (rms) into a fiat panda (ha ha) it had 16x 16v batteries and concrete lined, although you couldn’t drive it…purely SPL (he came 4th at the Sweden international sound-off…he was still wiring en-route and didn’t get chance to set the amps/gains correctly…shame, i reckon he could have hit 1st or 2nd running properly.)
