Bad Weather = Mysterious Leak

I’ve had my mini fully resprayed etc and all the body work is in good condition so no holes for the water to be getting into. However, the past few weeks, I’ve been getting water in the passenger side foot well and it’s quite a large amount of water. Last friday there was a small puddle so I’ve put it in the garage for the mean time.

There’s brand new door seals on etc so I’m just wondering if anyone has any similar problems or how they have solved it?

Cheers,

Kate

it could be your heater matrix leaking water it sits under the dash in the middle
easy to replace if it is that

When I had this problem I (eventually) found a hidden hole in the bulk head. I know you say your body work is in good condition, but it might be worth double checking. Other poss is windscreen seal?

you say you had it resprayed when it was builted back up was all the opening behind the door cards taped up as when it rains the water can get in between the window and the seal and comes in the car from the cards
another place to look is up where the pedals and master cylinders would be if it was a left hand drive

Rear window seals if you’ve got the push out windows.

Can leak through there and then end up at the front of the car.

It’s usually rotten bulkhead and/or inner wing - high up behind the dash panel cover, near the vent intake.

Take up your carpet and your inner wing covering insulation etc then get somebody to spray a hose up into the inner arch area as far up as possible then look for water leaking into the footwell.

Use this process for the door seals and window seals. You could sprinkle talcum powder or powdered chalk in the suspect areas if you have no one to help you. This will show up any leaks. We use an aerosol chalk product for tracing leaks on Jet engines and works well with fuel, oil and water.
