I want to fit 10" wellers over the front brake discs, but when i looked at it, the disc wasn’t the problem..it was rubbing at two points just on the edge of the caliper..i dont want to spend 300-odd quid on a conversion kit, so i was planning on grinding the caliper edge slightly until the wheel can pass by smoothly as it is only slightly catching. I have done a search on this but no-one else seems to mention this as an option!
What does everybody think, or has anyone done this? cheers
must mention that modifying brake calipers is at your own risk. and TMF do not condone or take any responsibilites to anyone carrying out this type of modification.
cheers guys! yeah i found that faq a few seconds after i posted..typically! the calipers only very very slightly rub..spacers would probably sort it but if not half a mm would probably do..i am nervous about it though..where are the fluid passage things in the calipers that i could damage?
lot cheaper than the brake cobversions like i just bought from minisport
well thats what i was thinking..its just not worth my paying hundreds to get 10" when i may be able to just grind the very edge off..if i do do it, i will aim for about 2mm clearance..i think the metal the caliper is made out of should be thick enough for that..well..i hope! how much did your kit cost?
My fiesta caliper parts cost me £120 incl the hubs and all you would need is the disks (8.4 cut down to 7.9) a caliper seal kit, pads and hoses. but ive bought my minisport kit id let them go for £80 or £90 incl the ball joint kits ive already bought.
My minisport kit was too much for me to mention incase her in doors looks on here LOL but the kit is very schecksie LOL
cheers! yeah i thought the same but im not sure if you could get enough metal off/the strength might be affected..its quite difficult deciding what to do..might go to a machine shop and ask them..i could deffo try that with my spare…opinions people?

With a lot of the advice given out round here thats a sound statement jordie
I have done this both ways, i didnt like the idea of trimming the caliper but had no problems in all the time i had the car, After that on a different car i had very wide wellers with deep ofset and these only needed the smallest of spacers
