Good old 20W50 will do, you can get engine building lube too. It’s especially worthwhile if the engine is likely to sit around for a bit before being run.

I use build oil for everything except the pistons, these I coat in the oil I will be using to run in. There is also a cam assembly grease that disolves into regular engine oil instantly the engine is started, this is brilliant for lightly packing the oil pump to aid instant oil pressure on the first start.

Yep - use assembly lube or cam lube everywhere apart from on the pistins/rings/bores. For here use cheap 20W50 \*mineral\* oil, which is what you should use for the initial run in.
Using any of the assembly lubes in the bores will prevent the rings from bedding in as well as they should.

Sounds like a graphite based lube, engine build lubes are molybdenum based.

Is this the stuff: [Link](http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=37309&title=ENGINE%20BUILD%20LUBE%20TORCO,4).

Then use engine oil in the ring compressor?

That’s the one I use yes. The grease is sold under the same name. Don’t just use oil in the compressor, coat the bores in it and liberally coat the outside of the piston soaking all the rings. Then coat the compressor too.
